Barbara Hall, a 1982 graduate of James Madison University, has gone on to create a name and legacy in Hollywood. Graduating with B.A. in English, she is now an Emmy-nominated television writer and producer.

Hall began her career as a comedy/drama writer for shows Newhart and Northern Exposure. Hall blossomed into stardom with Joan of Arcadia, which she created and served as executive producer. Arcadia transcended television dramas and went on to win a People’s Choice Award and be nominated for an Emmy.

Hall also is an accomplished novelist and musician, publishing 11 novels and being honored by the American Library Association.  She is also a member of “The Enablers,” an alternative country rock band and most recently released two solo albums.

Hall is still actively involved within the JMU community, speaking to SMAD students during the summer in LA internship program amongst many other things.
