UPDATE: Student Org Night got rained out Friday night so it is now on Tuesday, Sept. 8 on the UREC Upper Turf from 7-9pm.
This year, Student Organization Night is going to be bigger and badder than it has ever been before, with some awesome new modifications. Suzanne Kelly from Student Activities and Involvement answers some questions that you might have about the big event.
Q: What is different about Student Org Night this year?
A: Freshman and upperclassmen have different time slots. Returning and transfer students can go from 7-8pm and it is open to freshmen from 8-9pm. There will also be an ice cream social for upperclassman from 8-9pm. Rather than being arranged alphabetically, the organizations will be arranged in groups to make it easier to browse. The maps will also be more student friendly, including quotes from past students and resources on how to get connected. Finally, stick around afterwards for Dukes After Dark!
Q: What is Dukes After Dark?
A: It will be a welcome back lawn party from 9-11pm for all new and returning students. There will be corn hole, Can Jam, a popcorn bar, a live DJ, and giveaways!
Q: How will these changes benefit student experiences?
A: The changes will hopefully be less overwhelming and will make it easier for students to locate organizations they have interest in and then connect with these groups. For the upperclassman, the goal is to take away the stigma that this event is only for freshmen.
Q:What are the categories that the organizations will be split into?
A: Academics, Advocacy, Campus Partners, Community Partners, Diversity, Greek Letter Organizations, Leadership, Music, Professional Development, Recreation, Religion/Spirituality, Service-Oriented, Special Interest
Q: How many groups will be present?
A: Over 250!!
Q: How would you suggest making most of the event?
A: Be prepared and check out the Be Involved website to get a feel of what you are interested in.
There it is, fellow Dukes! Come to Student Org Night to find the perfect organization for you!
