Nothing tastes quite as good as fresh, local ingredients and lucky for us there’s a new restaurant in town that makes that their priority. Pure Eats is connected to the Ice House, right in front of the farmer’s market in Downtown Harrisonburg. With its warm and rustic atmosphere, this is the perfect place to have a drink and hang with your buddies after class.
All of their ingredients are organic and locally bought, from their beef and chicken (never frozen!) to their coffee. All the beers on tap are regional Virginia beers and are changed out regularly. With the farmers market being extremely close, you can be sure their produce is fresh too.
Pure Eats serves the pinnacle of America’s favorite classics: burgers and milkshakes. Beef burgers not your thing? Well, they also have veggie burgers and chicken sandwiches. As if that isn’t enough, there is a vegan and gluten free menu and breakfast sandwiches for those early morning risers.
As a person who loves dessert, I gotta say that the star of the show here is definitely their doughnuts. Made fresh everyday at 4am, Pure Eats produces its staple cinnamon sugar doughnut as well as a Doughnut of the Day. The bakers have creative free reign on the specialty doughnuts so you never know what kind they might have that day!
What’s next for Pure Eats? In the interest of supporting local artists, they are looking to have in-house live music. They also plan on opening a retro speakeasy right next door called Pure & Easy hopefully by mid- to late-October. With a different menu and a bartender, the space will have a relaxing and sophisticated vibe for the adults.
It’s safe to say that the people of Pure Eats put their heart and soul into their food and community. If you love fresh quality food, want to be a part of the community, or just want a place to hang with your friends, swing by Pure Eats and grab a doughnut or two!
