Thanksgiving is a time for good food and quality family time. Many families have their own traditions, so we wanted to tell you a few of ours!

Michele: Every year, we play a trivia game about a popular Christmas movie. The prize for the winning team is the moose cups from the movie, Christmas Vacation. My family has won the past two years! We have a huge extended family, so the competition gets heated sometimes. This tradition is something I look forward to every year because after the game is over, everyone settles down and watches the movie.

John: Each Thanksgiving, I watch the parade and eat at my grandparents house with my entire family. My favorite food is my grandma’s corn pudding because it tastes like candy. This year, I’m excited to go for a morning hunt with my friend around 530.

Wren: Every year it seems like we do something a little different. The last couple years, my mom has made a spatchcocked a chicken, which makes the meat very juicy and tender. Overall, I think my favorite thanksgiving food is probably a tie between pumpkin pie with whipped cream and mashed potatoes and gravy. This year specifically, I am going to Artomatic, a popup art show in Hyattsville, Maryland. They are featuring hundreds of artists and thousands of artworks.

Brenda: My favorite Thanksgiving tradition is simply being able to see all of my family. This will be the first time I have seen my parents and brother since school started, but also all of my cousins, aunts, uncles, etc. Everyone comes to my house on Thanksgiving day and we have a huge feast and get to catch up. I have a large group of cousins around the same age as myself, so sometimes we stay up all night and go Black Friday shopping together too! My favorite Thanksgiving meal is this excellent mac n cheese recipe my aunt cooks with Ritz cracker rumbles on top. Other than seeing my family, all I plan on doing over Thanksgiving break is playing with my dog, Conan, sleeping, and watching as much Netflix as possible.

Mary: My grandmother is Cuban so we always have a little black bean rice to spice up the traditional turkey and stuffing at Thanksgiving. That recipe and my mom’s homemade mashed potatoes and gravy are by far my favorite foods. As for tradition, my family lies to get fat and sleep haha

Here at the Daily Duke, we want to hear about your favorite foods or family traditions on Thanksgiving. Have a great break!
