In honor of #GivingTuesday, I would like to encourage you to take a break from your studies and be intentional about giving back to your community. If you decide that you would like to be a part of JMU’s giving efforts, you can donate to JMU by visiting The Office of Development’s website here. There are many programs and needs across the university, so you can easily pick a fund you’re passionate about or give to the Madison Vision Fund, allowing JMU to use those unrestricted dollars where the need is greatest.

Giving Tuesday was created in 2012 by the Belfer Center for Innovation & Social Impact. The Tuesday following Black Friday and Cyber Monday is meant to promote the generosity of people, as well as to celebrate it. In 2015 alone, $116.7 million was donated on #GivingTuesday, with an average gift of $107. To find out more about #GivingTuesday go to their website where you can read other peoples’ giving stories, get more information on how to be involved and where to donate.

Wherever and whatever you choose to give, thank you for your kindness and generosity. That’s what this day is all about!
