Upon your return to JMU, you most likely noticed the fresh dusting of snow on the ground.

Winter is in full effect, and whether we like it or not, there will be plenty of snow to come. Now, I’m from New York, so the temptation to be sarcastic with you all is real. I won’t be though… I’ll be nice.

Here is how to have the perfect duke dog snow day.

Step 1: Be prepared.

You will need…

  • A shovel Pick one up at the nearest Home Depot or Lowe’s. You don’t want to get stuck digging your car out with pots and pans. If you do have a car, you will also want to look into a snow removal tool of some sort.
  • Snow clothes This includes boots, hats, gloves, hopefully a jacket at this point… You don’t want to have to ruin your nice riding boots to get dinner at SSC.
  • Food and water Now, this seems obvious, but make sure you have something to eat and drink if you can’t make it our of your dorm/house. Basically, don’t put off your grocery shopping if you see a Winter Storm Warning on your weather app.

Step 2: Seize the day.

Make the most out of your day off! Make sure to stock up on…

  • Your favorite snacks.
  • Your favorite movies.
  • All things cozy, like blankets and candles.

Step 3: Document it.

Pics or it didn’t happen.
