On January 16th, we celebrate the life and accomplishments of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He changed the way that we thought, he moved us to tears, and tried to put an end to segregation. Needless to say, he is a very influential figure in not only the United States’ history, but the world’s history. On the 16th of January, JMU will be honoring MLK day by marking the day as a holiday and cancelling all classes. Many JMU organizations and The City of Harrisonburg are hosting events around MLK day. The Center for Multicultural Student Services and the MLK Celebration Committee are having many events throughout the week of January 16th, and several of them are also being sponsored by other organizations, such as Esteem Models, NAACP, BSA, and MAD4U. This year the theme of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Week is “From Hashtag to Action: Unifying the Dream.”
