Even though the craziness of 1787 Orientation has come to an end and routines are starting to take shape, it’s important to look back and remember the fun activities that took place. 1787 Orientation is more than a list of events; it’s a chance for students to make everlasting friendships and get excited about attending JMU. First year students got to dive into JMU school spirit with a number of events.
Some of our favorite events from the week included the University Welcome, Playfair, UREC-fest, and of course the Pep Rally.
Wednesday’s University Welcome was a huge success. Students got to watch their FROGs show off their dance moves and learn more about the exciting events taking place during the week. Playfair took place shortly after and proved to be one of the most popular events. Students gathered under the stars at Bridgeforth Stadium where they had ample time to bond with each other. Spending time on the football field got Dukes eager to start the year to show off their pride. James Madison University snapchatted the events in case you missed them! Be sure to follow JMU on Snapchat to stay up to date on events taking place around campus @JamesMadisonU.
Thursday’s UREC-fest was another one of our favorite events. Students got the chance to really explore all of what JMU has to offer at the University Recreation Center. Swimming in the brand new aquatics center and climbing the amazing rock wall were just a few of the ways students got to bond and enjoy and utilize JMU’s new gym.
Finally, the Pep Rally on Friday left first year students excited for the year. Students showed their spirit by throwing their first purple and gold streamers in the air with the friends they made throughout the week. Students also got to enjoy the Marching Royal Dukes, and meet student athletes from the National Championship Football team! New students also took the traditional JMU photo, which you can see a time-lapse of below!
After a long week of festive activities, first year students are now ready for what JMU has to offer, and are eager to kick-off the semester!
