With finals fast approaching, you’re probably frustrated to realize your favorite campus study spot has been overtaken. Not to worry, there are plenty of places around Harrisonburg that have room to accommodate hard-working students, many within easy walking distance of campus. Whether you like to learn while sipping on a latte and enjoying a little background noise, or you’d rather hunker down in silence, there’s a place on this list for you.

Located downtown on S. Main Street, Massanutten Regional Library is a quick walk from the Quad. If you like a quiet and calm study environment, then this public library is the place for you!

Shenandoah Joe is a favorite study spot for many Dukes. If you usually study in the Student Success Center, walk a few extra minutes down South Mason and discover all this coffee shop has to offer. Stop by to get caffeinated and choose a space in this beautiful building to prep for acing those exams.

Another favorite study spot for JMU students is Greenberry’s. Appealingly located between the Quad and Memorial, it’s no secret why. Greenberry’s offers a warm, inviting interior and delicious coffee, tea, and other treats, making it a prime study spot.

If you haven’t tried Black Sheep yet, our team recommends it. Located downtown in Ice House, Black Sheep is a little farther from campus, but worth the walk or drive. Black Sheep has a friendly atmosphere and a smaller interior, so get there early to stake your claim before finals.

Heritage Bakery and Cafe is a quaint spot tucked away in a cozy corner downtown. With plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, you’re sure to find a spot to settle down and power through your studying. Heritage Bakery and Cafe offers a full menu made in-house to keep you going all day long.

Many students are familiar with The Artful Dodger, but have you tried studying there? Dodger features tons of seating inside and out, and serves coffee as well as meals for those who like to eat while preparing for exams.

Looking to study closer to East Campus? Cinnamon Bear is the way to go! Just up the road from E-Hall, this cute bakery and deli has an online ordering system, and lots of delicious snacks to keep you fueled up for studying.
